Songs, poems and tales from 100 years of working class struggles – a fundraiser for the Library with ballad singer Jennifer Reid and Manchester University’s Michael Sanders.
The lovely acoustics of the Library hall will show off Jennifer’s pure, strong voice in 19th century ‘broadside ballads’ including Citizen Guillotine, Bury New Loom, Miners' Lock-Out, Sons of Poverty Assemble and What We'd All Like to See.
Alongside this will be words from radical heroes like William Cobbett, Friedrich Engels, Thomas Paine, and Samuel Bamford, as well as unsung 'ordinary' men and women whose courage played a vital role in countless struggles.
The event will also include the unveiling of a brand new 'Chartist' banner created by local textile artist Ed Hall, who has based his banner on descriptions found in the Chartist press.
Price £10 - tickets can be booked in advance by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org. If tickets remain, it will also be possible to pay on the door
