To mark Black History Month, Tony Kushner will be speaking at the Library on Saturday 31 October at 2pm on the subject of "Remembering Refugees".

Professor Kushner teaches at the University of Southampton, where his main research area is British Jewish history in the late 19th and 20th centuries, covering the social history of British Jewry, immigration issues and responses to the Jews. He also has a strong interest in the Holocaust, refugee movements, immigration and ethnicity in modern British history and general issues of history, representation and the heritage industry. His published work includes Traditions of intolerance: historical perspectives on fascism and race discourse in Britain, The persistence of prejudice: antisemitism in Britain during the Second World War and Remembering Cable Street: fascism and anti-fascism in British society.

His book Remembering refugees: then and now was published in 2006 by Manchester University Press.
