Two events at the Library to mark International Women's Day -
11am -2pm Living Libraries - where books come to life. A UNISON trade union initiative, Living Libraries gives people the opportunity to listen to a range of women storytellers, who will share their experiences of life as active trade unionists.
On the scrap heap? is Polly's story of the corrosive effects of ageism in the workplace. "I enjoy my job, where did it go? I'm still here, or am I? Who's doing the work I used to? Am I invisible?"
Sharza Dethick's book Dreams is an intimate portrait of a woman who made her dream jobs come true - proving you should never give up on your dream. All whilst becoming an increasingly committed trade union activist.
Anne Cusack has a couple of stories. Firstly The Listening Ear tells of how she experienced bullying at work and her journey out of fear - with her union's help she dealt with the bully and during her active life in the union found a new life and made a fresh start. Secondly The Pianist is the story of how she learnt to play the instrument of her dreams.
Drop by any time between 11 and 2 to 'borrow' a book and hear these stories.
2.30pm Talks by Sarah Irving & Linda Clair on women and politics. Sarah will talk about the life and politics of Palestinian activist Leila Khaled, and Linda will reflect on her own political involvement and activity over many years.
Both events are free; all are welcome. Light refreshments will be available.
