An adult group of informal learners at Ordsall Community Arts have worked with Salford's Working Class Movement Library to create a piece of musical theatre for Lighting the Legend, an 18 year old traditional community celebration, including a lantern procession with approximately 150 children. Green Bananas takes place on Wednesday 4 November at 7pm on Mariners' Quay, Salford Quays, after a lantern parade from the Lowry Theatre.
Salford Docks was once the main area of employment in Ordsall and stories still abound locally of the dockers and their working life. Using resources at the Library the group have researched such stories to inspire a performance on Mariners' Quay to an estimated audience of 1,500 local people.
The project has been funded by a grant from the Museums, Libraries and Archives Council (MLA)'s Informal Adult Learning Challenge Fund.
