Left Book Club

Left Book Club logo By 1936 people in Britain were recovering from the worst of the Depression. The Nazi threat was growing, and popular forces were aligning themselves to face the challenge.
Playing its own special role in this was the Left Book Club. Started in 1936 by Victor Gollancz the club's membership grew rapidly reaching some 57,000 by the war years, along with 1,500 organised study groups.
Its aim was "to help in the terribly urgent struggle for World Peace and against Fascism by giving to all who are determined to play their part in this struggle such knowledge as will immensely increase their efficiency."
The LBC continued through the war years, finally closing in 1948.
Here follows a list of the books issued. The titles in red are missing from our collection. Donations will be gratefully received
